The city of New York is home to some of the world’s most renowned museums and cultural institutions. But while there are many avenues to save on admission costs, tickets can still be pricey.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and the Guggenheim all have prices above $25 for adults, a price point that has become “the new normal” for most museums. Adding to the cost is a new labor contract that has pushed up salaries while inflation drives up costs, such as heating and shipping art.

That’s why it’s important to research and plan ahead for a trip to a museum. While the price of admission has increased for the general public, there are ways to save on entry fees, including free and reduced-cost options. For example, people who work for other museums within the country can gain free entry into the Met by showing a valid membership card. In addition, students from certain universities can also gain free entry by showing a valid student ID.
